Biography
Before joining Trident Media Group in early 2009, Matthew Carnicelli was president and founder of Carnicelli Literary Management. Before becoming an agent, he held senior editorial positions at the Penguin Group, Contemporary Books, and McGraw-Hill. During his fourteen years as an editor, he acquired and published such New York Times trade paperback bestsellers as Earth in the Balance by Vice President Al Gore and Hillary Clinton: The Inside Story by Judith Warner. Other paperback acquisitions include Strange Justice: The Selling of Clarence Thomas by Jane Mayer and Jill Abramson, Jews and Blacks by Cornel West and Michael Lerner, and The Love Letter by Cathleen Schine. In hardcover, he worked with such well-known authors as Martin Duberman, Louis V. Gerstner, Jr., Daniel Burtstein, Sandra Mackey, John Wooden, Robert Kurson, and Victoria Moran.
Matthew Carnicelli is a graduate of Washington University, with a B.A. in English Literature and Political Science, and received an M.A. from the University of Toronto in English Literature. He has taught college-level nonfiction writing, attends numerous writers' conferences, and is often called upon by the media to speak on publishing and other topics.
